Surprisingly good food for a buffet. A lot of the time buffet dishes are hit or miss or even across the board kind of bland and sad, but everything we tried was good. The lightly seasoned green beans had good crunch, the mushrooms were ever so slightly sweetened, the lo-mein was what you'd expect from a good Chinese takeout, the crawfish, salmon, and shrimp were all well flavored and the gyoza were surprisingly good. They had some little steamed custard-like buns that I suspect come frozen but are nonetheless darn tasty. I didn't have a chance (no room left) to try the hibachi bar, but my partner had some chicken from there and had no complaints. The food wasn't exactly on par with his dad's (non-buffet) restaurant offerings, but that's a high bar and he was more than satisfied. The exception in my opinion was the rolls (makizushi), which seemed to have been constructed in a rush, though understandably as it was mad busy and people were emptying the trays faster than they could be filled. The dessert bar could also use a bit more variety; it's the usual fruit, jello, light cakes, and puddings and I'd love some options with some crisp or crunch since most of the offerings are on the mushy-soft end of the spectrum. Being that it was a buffet and there' can sometimes be a language barrier, I think service was fine. No complaints there. The ambiance was slightly better than most buffets--little to no natural light, but warmly lit with interesting decor. Despite it being summer, I didn't see any of the flies mentioned in other reviews, though their presence wouldn't in the least surprise me since every restaurant I've spent any decent amount of time in down in the South struggles with the same menace. I'm more worried about the people who walk out of the restroom without washing their hands before picking up the buffet implements--if you get sick, it's almost definitely on them, not the flies.
